Life Mission Kerala: Housing Scheme Eligibility, Beneficiaries And How To Apply, LIFE mission is introduced by Kerala Government that provides housing options and financial assistance to the underprivileged. The maximum benefits can be availed by the economically weaker sections and low income groups.

 

LIFE stands for Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment that will unveil quality housing and a good life. This mission is currently at its third phase, has so far constructed over 1.5 lakh homes across the state. And, around 52,000 homes were constructed in Phase-I, while 78,432 houses were constructed in Phase-II.

The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, inaugurated the construction work of 29 housing complexes, which will house over 1,285 families on September 24, 2020. As per the CM of the state, a total of 1.35 lakh beneficiaries have been identified in the third phase of the mission.

 

The government portal states that Thiruvanthapuram district is at the top when it comes to the implementation of the mission. There are as many as around 18,000 units that were built under the LIFE Mission.

This high cost project incorporated the total cost is expected to reach around Rs 4,000 crores. The funding will be raised from the World Bank and Japanese institutions and a generous amount of donations is also expected to come from philanthropic societies in the Middle-East.

What Is LIFE Mission Kerala?

 

The LIFE Mission is launched with the aim to provide a housing scheme that will give shelter to landless and homeless people in Kerala. Under this scheme, within a span of five years it is targeted to build 4.3 lakh homes.

 

Under this programme, housing complexes will be equipped with all modern and quality amenities. It will give the provisions that are specifically designed for the beneficiaries to pursue the great living. Along with this, there are number of social services, such as primary healthcare, senior citizen support and skill development that will further enhance the inclusivity.

Why government decide to initiate this housing scheme? The objective of this housing scheme is to provide safe and secured houses for sale options to the deprived people.

4. Having benefited from all social welfare schemes, including financial services.

Who All Comes Under This Scheme?

 

This LIFE Housing scheme covers people who stay in the outlying, coastal or plantation areas and temporary housing. And also, this scheme will be implemented in combination with the housing schemes being implemented by various departments.

LIFE Mission Kerala: The Beneficiaries

 

In Phase-II, almost around one lakh eligible beneficiaries will be covered and around 81% of the total homes have been constructed. But it is only for the people who are homeless but have land. This mission needs to some parameters that the applicant must have to get eligible such as:

 

•Landless or homeless.

•Not been able to complete the house construction and have no other home.

•Has a temporary home in costal, plantation or exotic areas.

What is the Beneficiary Priority Criteria LIFE Mission Kerala?

 

The beneficiaries will get selected only on the following basis that is marked as priority criteria:

 

• Mentally / physically challenged

• Poor

• Heterosexuals

• People with serious/fatal illness

• Unmarried mothers

• Unemployed due to illness / accident

• Widows

Following Is The Key Eligibility Criteria For The Beneficiaries:

 

1. Government sector working people are not eligible.

2. Maximum annual income of the applicant should be less Rs three lakhs.

3. People residing in Kerala can apply for this LIFE scheme.

4. Applicants should be landless to be eligible.

5. Homeless families who have a ration card can apply.

How To Apply For LIFE Mission Kerala 2020?

 

You can apply for the scheme online and offline. Follow this procedure, to apply online:

 

Step 1: Open the LIFE Mission Kerala portal, i.e. their official website http://life2020.kerala.gov.in/.

 

Step 2: Next, you have to click on ‘New Registration’ (as you are a first time user).

 

Step 3: In the following registration form, just fill your name and mobile number.

 

Step 4: Now, send the OTP to your mobile number and verify your contact details to move further with the registration process.

 

Step 5: After it, fill the registration form and submit the details.

 

You can also apply offline by visiting the nearest Akshaya Kendra. There you will also have to fill the registration form and then, just submit it.

What Is The Process Of Shortlisting The Beneficiary?

 

There are three steps to shortlist beneficiaries for the LIFE Housing Scheme:

 

Step 1: The social and economic caste survey conducted by the central government in 2011 is referred, to identify the beneficiary.

 

Step 2: The field-level officers will visit the identified beneficiaries for verification. The documents and details will be recorded and submitted to local self-government institutions.

 

Step 3: The final list of selected beneficiaries will be published at local panchayat/district level office.

The government of Kerala has also taken the pleasure of announcing the insurance cover for the houses built under the LIFE Mission project. It states that each unit constructed under the scheme will have insurance cover of Rs 4 lakhs for a period of three years. And for that, for which the premium will be paid by the state government. But once the period of thress years is over, the owner has all the responsibility to bear the expenses for the premium.

Recent Update On LIFE Mission Kerala

 

Recently a short window was opened for fresh applications for the Livelihood, Inclusion, Financial Empowerment (LIFE) housing project. This went for five days taking the total tally of applicants in the latest phase of the project to 9.2 lakh. Moreover, fresh applications close to 90,000 were received across local bodies during this short period of just five days.

 

Ever in the history, this was the first time when the state government opened the direct application method for LIFE project. Otherwise, the applicants were chosen on the basis of a survey conducted by the Kudumbashree. Also, the project hit a high point of 2.5 lakh houses that get completed in phases in January. Along with that, 36 flat complexes are in progress at various parts of the State, out of which 10 are about to get complete.
