Development Of Sustainable Infrastructure Of Delhi Mumbai Expressway

  • Wildlife crossings

India's first animal overpasses or bridges will be found on the future highway, which will also be the longest greenfield road. These will be built so that the new infrastructure has no effect on the wildlife section. There will be around five of these animal overpasses, totaling about 2.5 km in length, that cross the Mukundra and Ranthambore wildlife sanctuaries in Rajasthan.

  • Environment-friendly features

It is anticipated that the newly constructed Delhi-Mumbai highway would also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 850 million kg. In addition, less traffic congestion will result in an annual fuel savings of almost 32 crore liters. The freeway lighting will run on solar energy. Two million trees will be planted along the road, and it will be completely irrigated with drip irrigation using rainwater collection systems spaced 500 meters apart.

  • E-highway

The construction of an e-highway is planned, which should reduce the cost of logistics. This eight-lane freeway will have four lanes dedicated to electric cars. For security, a wall rising to a height of 1.5 meters will be built on both sides of the street. Slip lanes will be used as toll plaza locations rather than freeways.

What Is The Cost Of Delhi Mumbai Expressway?

As part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna Phase-1 initiative, the Delhi Mumbai Expressway is a flagship greenfield project that connects two significant metropolises. There are 52 construction packages being used to complete the highway project. Out of the 1,380 kilometers, contracts for more than 1,200 kilometers have already been granted and are being worked on, according to a government announcement.

The development of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway project is estimated to have cost around Rs 1,00,000 crores, including the cost of acquiring land. To fund the expressway project, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) established DME Developers (DMEL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) that the Authority will hold in its entirety. The SPV has a AAA rating from CRISIL, CARE, and India Ratings, according to a recent announcement by the NHAI.

In order to partially finance the project, the SPV has raised Rs 9,731 crores, according to a recent announcement from the NHAI. State Bank of India provided the lion's share of finance, contributing Rs 5,000 crores. Axis Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and Punjab National Bank are other investors in the SPV.
